VR gaming PC buying guide

Are you keen to dive into the world of virtual reality? Then you’ll need a PC that’s capable of providing the ultimate VR experience.

A PC that’s not able to offer a smooth, truly-immersive VR experience will ruin the illusion.

So, if you want to make sure you buy a PC that’s capable of providing the best possible VR experience at a realistic price point, read this VR gaming PC buying guide from the CCL team now.

What is a VR gaming PC?

Put simply, a VR gaming PC is a PC that has sufficient performance and specification to support virtual reality goggles and applications.

As virtual reality goggles and applications require a considerable amount of graphical capability and processing power, the best VR gaming PCs feature high-end graphics cards, processors and other components.

In addition to these high-end components, VR gaming PCs also feature a large number of ports. Some VR headsets require as many as four USB ports - this is in addition to the ports that you already require for peripherals and monitors.

Here at CCL it’s easy to spot our VR gaming PCs amongst our gaming PC range. Simply look for the systems that feature a ‘VR Ready’ logo in the product description.

What components should a VR gaming PC have?

To achieve the very best VR gaming experience, it’s crucial that your PC has the appropriate components.

As you can imagine, achieving an immersive virtual reality experience requires a considerable amount of processing power and memory. So, a good-quality VR gaming PC will have a high-end graphics card, processor and memory.

VR gaming PC graphics card

There’s no getting away from the fact that if you want to enjoy VR gaming at its best, you’ll need a pretty hefty graphics card in your system.

What do we mean by a ‘hefty’ graphics card?

Well, you’ll want at least an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 in there. But, something like an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti is even better. This will give your system the grunt it needs to properly render in-depth VR scenes.

All of CCL’s VR gaming PCs are fitted with appropriately powerful graphics cards. Select from system with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 GPUs through to systems with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti graphics cards.

VR gaming PC memory

Like any memory intensive application or program, virtual reality requires that your PC is equipped with sufficient high-capacity memory.

Whilst the minimum recommended RAM for many VR headsets continues to be 8GB, we’d recommend choosing a system with at least 16GB of RAM. This not only will ensure that your VR experience runs smoothly, but it also gives you headroom for future upgrades or program requirements.

VR gaming PC processor

When it comes to using a VR headset with your PC, it’s vital that you don’t under-spec your CPU.

Virtual reality programs require a considerable amount of data transfer between the graphics card and the processor, so it’s important that your CPU is able to handle this. An insufficiently powerful CPU will lead to the creation of ‘bottlenecks’ that will affect your VR gaming experience.

At CCL all of our VR gaming PCs feature high-end, multi-core CPUs such as the Intel Core i5-10400F, AMD Ryzen 5-3600, Intel Core i7-10700F and others.

Ensure that a VR gaming PC has those three core components up to spec, and you can be assured you’ll be in for great VR gaming.

How much does a VR gaming PC cost?

Because creating a smooth, fun VR gaming experience requires the use of high-end components, VR gaming PCs tend to be at the higher end of the price spectrum.

Here at CCL we offer VR gaming PCs ranging in price from just over £1,000 all the way up to £5,000 (and more) - for those of you who want to experience the absolute ultimate in virtual reality.

What headsets are best for a VR gaming PC?

If you’re going to take the time and investment required to buy a VR gaming PC, it’s important that you buy a headset that’ll do it justice.

These days you have an enormous amount of choice of VR headsets. For the very best experience however, we recommend that you choose a headset that tethers direct to your PC.

This will ensure that you get the most out of your system and your headset.

Great PC-tethered VR headsets are the Valve Index, Pimax Vision 8K X, Varjo Aero, and HTC Vive Focus 3. But as we mentioned earlier, that’s only the tip of the iceberg. The choice is almost endless!

Where to buy VR gaming PC

If you’ve read through this guide this far, then you’ll know that it’s important to buy a VR gaming PC which is well designed and has the perfect blend of balanced, high-end components.

But there’s something else you need when buying a VR gaming PC - backup.

And, that’s exactly what you’ll get when you buy a VR gaming PC from CCL. Let’s take a look…

3-year collect and return warranty

We design our VR gaming PCs so that they’ll provide years of outstanding, reliable gaming. But, in the unlikely event that something goes wrong, we’ve got you covered with a 3-year collect and return warranty.

Under this warranty, CCL will cover the cost of:

  • Sending your PC to our Bradford workshop for repair.
  • Any components, parts or labour required to get your PC running again.
  • Returning your PC to you.

All of that is included for FREE for the first 3 years of ownership!

Extensive testing

Naturally, we don’t want your new VR gaming PC to ever go wrong, so we subject each and every one of our PCs to a battery of extensive tests - subjecting them to loads, stresses and more to ensure they’ll withstand even the most hardcore of gaming sessions.

We don’t stop there though.

All of our VR gaming PCs are put through an extensive quality assurance process too. Our PC builders will go over your PC with a fine tooth comb, inspecting every part of the PC to ensure it is up to standard.

It’s only then that your VR gaming PC will be packaged and sent out to you.

Free delivery VR gaming PCs

When we build a new VR gaming PC we’re excited - but probably not as excited as you are to receive it!

That’s why we work with the very best courier companies to ensure that your new PC reaches you quickly and safely.

When we have your PC in stock, we will aim to deliver it the next working day. If your new PC is built to order, then we will aim to deliver it to you in 4 to 5 working days.

Once you’ve received your new VR gaming PC, the support doesn’t end there!

Whether you’ve got questions about setting up your PC, or you have questions later on about upgrading your system or making changes to settings, the CCL tech support team is here to help.

We offer low-cost telephone support and completely free email support.
