I have always suffered from a poor wifi connection in our Study / bedroom. The connection was so bad that, on occasion, the signal would drop out completely. I started to look at extenders / boosters some time ago. However, the reviews seemed somewhat mixed with the same item getting 5 star and 1 star reviews. I finally decided to take the plunge and after spending ages reading reviews, I picked the Netgear AC1900. I have owned Netgear products before and always found them very good. When it arrived I followed the instructions and found a significant improvement in signal to my smartphone and tablet. The Laptop, however, completely failed to see the extender. I spent ages trying the extender in different places but the Laptop still failed to see it. One of the apparent benefits of this unit is that it uses the same wifi name as the original router so I was unable to see if the laptop was connecting to the original router or the extender. A quick read of the instructions showed me how to change the wifi name. I logged onto the Extender and changed the wifi name. Now my Laptop could see it and I could select it manually. Suddenly I was getting speeds around 50mb/s. The initial setup was very simple and worked well will all my connected devices except the laptop. Changing the wifi name was very simple and allowed me to select the extender which the laptop seemed reluctant to do. A massive improvement at a reasonable price. I can definitely recommend this extender
