All eyes are again on Nvidia right now, since prices have begun to fall on RTX cards like the mid-range RTX 3060 up to the ferocious RTX 3090 Ti. The company has been all over the media recently, with the influx of restocks and impending release of the RTX 40 series, which is estimated to be Q1 2023. This date makes sense considering Nvidia confirmed release of their Grace server chip which is, of course, rumoured to be based on the same 5nm process as the RTX 40 Series.
For those who have an RTX GPU, or if you're purchasing a new (affordable) Ray Tracing supported card, you are not short of games to play and make the most of your hardware.

The last few titles impressed the heck out of gamers, with the most notable being Ghostwire: Tokyo, which depicted a very beautiful Shibuya district, replete with rain-soaked city reflections and lighting that showcases RTX perfectly. Techland's Dying Light 2 Stay Human switched gears and became even more atmospheric with the Ray Tracing treatment, and joins Metro Exodus as a poster child for making immersive horror and action games even better with RTX and DLSS technologies.
If Nvidia have their way, however, Path Tracing could well be the future of light and shadow in gaming experiences, and warn us not to "get too comfortable" with what we currently class as next-gen visuals. We'll have more on Nvidia's path tracing progress in a later article, but for a decent explainer, check out this Quake II path tracing remake.
Which RTX Card Should You Choose?
Choosing an RTX card is now a little less stressful thanks to the price drops and reductions we're seeing, and if you're dipping your toe in the perfectly rendered reflective water of Ray Tracing, then the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 offers an extremely affordable way to get started. That said, the RTX 3060 and RTX 3060 Ti are both excellent mid-range graphics cards that pack serious punch in AAA titles, and offer borderline silly triple-figure framerates in competitive gaming.
For the hardcore gamer who wants to push the boundaries of the latest games to feature Ray Tracing, the more extreme graphics cards offer the very best experiences in the most demanding titles.
The RTX 3080 and RTX 3080 Ti have recently seen three and four figure reductions in price, making extreme custom built PCs like the Nazare 7380a iCUE RTX incredibly good value for money, with over £500* in savings.
At the top end of the scale, you have the 8K and 4K dieties, the RTX 3090 and RTX 3090 Ti, which are two of the most powerful graphics cards available to humans. Nvidia claims the RTX 3090 Ti is, on average, 64% faster than the RTX 3080 Ti.
Benchmarks have ensured high-fives galore at Nvidia headquarters, beating AMD's best effort - the RX 6900 XT - in most highly demanding games at 4K. If you needed a reason to spend over £1500* on an RTX 3090 graphics card, you would be aiming at playing 4K games at breakneck framerates, and have a 4K gaming monitor that would do it justice.
Once you have the hardware, it's time to select the glorious ray traced games from the updated list below.
